The Congress of Bosniaks of North America (CBNA) is proud to announce its attendance at the congressional screening of Kiss the Future, a powerful film by Matt Damon and Ben Affleck, highlighting Sarajevo’s epic resistance during the siege of the 1990s. The event, held in the Congressional Auditorium, was attended by over 300 guests, including Bosniak-Americans, supporters from across the United States, and key figures from Washington, D.C.
The screening was organized by the Embassy of Bosnia and Herzegovina, under the leadership of H.E. Ambassador Sven Alkalaj, in collaboration with the Islamic Community of Bosniaks in North America (ICNAB) and its President, Dr. Sabahudin Ćeman. CBNA extends heartfelt gratitude to these partners for making the event possible and to Congresswoman Ann Wagner and Congressman Tom Suozzi for sponsoring the screening and fostering the vital bilateral relationship between the United States and Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH).
Selma Porca, Executive Director of CBNA and a survivor of the siege of Sarajevo, described the event as a deeply emotional and full-circle moment:
During the event, Selma had the honor of meeting President Željko Komšić of Bosnia and Herzegovina, expressing gratitude on behalf of the Bosniak-American community for his continued advocacy for equal rights for all BiH citizens and the principle of “one person, one vote.”
CBNA also took the opportunity to connect with members of Congress, ambassadors, and community leaders, reaffirming the importance of collective efforts in addressing issues vital to the Bosniak-American community.
The screening of Kiss the Future serves as a poignant reminder of Sarajevo’s heroic resistance and the enduring strength of its people. CBNA remains committed to advocating for the Bosniak-American community and fostering solidarity between the United States and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
