Umbrella BiH diaspora associations united in the support for AUBiH

Umbrella BiH diaspora associations united in the support for AUBiHAuthor: Adis Hasaković — For the first time in the history of BiH diaspora, all three major diaspora organizations have simultaneously supported the work of a BiH institution. American University in Bosnia-Herzegovina (AUBiH) has received letters of support from the BiH World Diaspora Association (SSD BiH), which represents the interests of more than 1.5 million BiH citizens, the Council of BiH Organizations of Australia (VBiH OA), which represents the interests of some 100,000 BiH citizens living in Australia, as well as from the Congress of North-American Bosniaks (KBSA), representing the interests of more than 350,000 American and Canadian Bosniaks.

“The support from 1.5 million citizens of BiH living in diaspora has come to our University when it was needed the most. For AUBiH, this support has the power of great moral satisfaction, and concrete assistance. The act of support itself has greatly improved the credibility of our University”, says Denis Prcić, Chairman of the AUBiH Board of Trustees.

By supporting the work and development of AUBiH, SSD BiH particularly stresses the importance of education as the best possible investment for the political, economic, cultural and scientific development of a democratic and prosperous BiH, as well as an open and free civil society, as stated in the letter of support that SSD BiH sent to AUBiH. It is also stressed that AUBiH provides top-quality education, enables young professionals to develop their business ideas, recue the rate of unemployment, and bring BiH into the state of sustainable economy that will be considered an equal partner in the world market. SSD BiH recommends all organizations and individuals in BiH diaspora to implement their visions and ideas through AUBiH for the benefit of all citizens, for a better and safer future, for a new BiH, reintegrated into the EU, as stated further in the SSD BiH letter of support co-signed by Mr. Nesib Karišik and Mr. Belmir Zec, Vice-Presidents of SSD BiH.

The letter of support from the Council of BiH Organizations of Australia states that Bosnia and Herzegovina does not have a developed mechanism for the production of knowledge the way it is regulated in the West. The first step in achieving this goal is, indeed, American University in Bosnia and Herzegovina, since it offers dual diplomas, the US and the BiH diplomas, including the US education system. By supporting the work and development of AUBiH, the Council of BiH Organizations of Australia highlights the importance of higher education as the best possible investment for a political, economic cultural and scientific development of a democratic and prosperous state of BiH and an open and free civil society, as stated in the letter of support from VBiH OA, signed by Senada Softić, President of VBiH OA.

AUBiH provides an opportunity to realize all fruitful ideas of individuals and organizations from the North American diaspora. Moreover, AUBiH educates generations of professionals who will be able to use and contribute to the integration of Bosnia and Herzegovina into the EU with their knowledge and skills, as stated in the letter of support from KBSA, signed by the Chairman of the KBSA Board of Trustees, Mr. Murat Muratović, that was sent to AUBiH.

– I would like to stress the fact that, owing to its positive practice as a socially-responsible University, AUBiH has united the umbrella BiH diaspora associations in their support for the University. This further adds to our motivation to strive in the achievement of our basic task, which is to provide higher education to a larger number of young people who will be the driving force in the process of stable development of BiH and its entering the Euro-Atlantic integration processes, concludes Denis Prcić, Chairman of the AUBiH Board of Trustees.

KBSA is convinced that AUBiH offers world-class education to its students, while preparing them to be leaders in their respective fields. KBSA believes that AUBiH strives to produce generations who will have the ability to lead Bosnia and Herzegovina towards a better future – one where their nation will be on equal economic ground with other nations around the world.

In the three years of its existence, AUBiH has set new standards in higher education in Bosnia and Herzegovina, justified the support it has received from US diplomats, and shown that the American dream is possible in our country. At this institution of higher education, there are 250 students in Tuzla, Sarajevo and Banja Luka currently attending the College of International Finance and Banking, the College of Digital Economy and Information Technologies, and the College of International Law and Diplomacy, who will, in addition to receiving the AUBiH diploma, be also receiving the internationally-recognized diploma issued by the State University of New York (SUNY).
