CBNA Participates in the 2024 Bosniak Conference in Dallas, TX

Dallas, TX – The Congress of Bosniaks of North America (CBNA) proudly participated in the annual Susreti Bošnjaka Sjeverne Amerike conference, hosted this year by the vibrant Texas Bosniak community in Dallas. This event brought together Bosniak families, friends, and leaders from across the continent for a weekend of reflection, collaboration, and celebration of our shared heritage.

CBNA’s Executive Director, Selma Porca, and Board Member, Sabina Zolota, were honored to contribute to a panel discussion organized by Islamska Zajednica Bošnjaka Sjeverne Amerike (ICNAB). The panel focused on the pivotal role of women and mothers in shaping and uplifting communities.

“In a rapidly changing world that presents unprecedented challenges, not just for Bosniaks but for society at large, the resilience, leadership, and wisdom of women are more vital than ever,” said Selma Porca during the panel discussion. “Women and mothers are at the heart of our progress and our hope for a just and unified future.”

In addition to the panel discussion, Selma Porca delivered a compelling presentation on community engagement and its critical role in advancing CBNA’s mission. She emphasized the power of collective action and encouraged individuals and local organizations to collaborate with CBNA in advocacy efforts. “When we unite as a community, our voice becomes stronger, our reach expands, and our impact multiplies,” Porca stated, urging attendees to leverage their unique talents and networks to contribute to the organization’s ongoing work.

Porca also addressed Bosniak youth in a powerful session aimed at fostering Bosniak pride and identity. She highlighted the lives and legacies of Bosniak heroes, many of whom remain unfamiliar to younger generations, inspiring attendees to embrace their heritage with confidence and pride. “Our history is rich with individuals whose courage, intellect, and resilience shaped who we are today,” she shared. “It’s time we tell their stories and celebrate their contributions, so the next generation carries forward a sense of pride and belonging.”

The gala dinner, which concluded the conference, featured an inspiring keynote speech by CBNA President Amir Ovcina, who addressed the vital role of education and excellence in shaping the future of the Bosniak community. He encouraged Bosniak youth to pursue opportunities at the best universities, strive for excellence in their endeavors, and remain dedicated to becoming productive members of society. “Our strength lies in our knowledge, resilience, and the values we pass to the next generation. Education is our bridge to a brighter future,” Ovcina said, leaving attendees inspired and motivated.

Susreti Bošnjaka Sjeverne Amerike offered a valuable opportunity for the CBNA team and community leaders to come together, assess ongoing initiatives, and strategize for the future. The shared moments of connection, conversation, and reflection reinforced the bonds within our community and strengthened our collective commitment to advocacy and unity.

CBNA thanks the Texas Bosniak community for their warm hospitality and looks forward to next year’s gathering, where Bosniaks from across North America will once again come together to celebrate their shared heritage and envision a brighter future.
