CNAB welcomes EU Council of Ministers decision to allow visa free travel for Bosnian citizens

The Congress of North American Bosniaks (CNAB), welcomes the European Council of Ministers decision to support the Parliamentary recommendation to allow visa free travel to the EU for citizens of Albania and Bosnia-Herzegovina. This decision leaves Kosovo as the only Balkan country to be excluded from the visa arrangement.

This decision is a huge vote of confidence for Bosnia and Herzegovina and its citizens. We welcome this as a first positive step by the EU in welcoming Bosnia and Herzegovina membership to the EU. Although some of the Council members had concerns regarding illegal immigration and false claims for asylum, we believe that this historic decision will prove to be the right course of action, reaffirming the fact that Bosnian citizens belong in the European society.

We also support the use of appropriate measures to ensure compliance with existing immigration laws. We urge all Bosnian citizens to exercise their visa rights in a responsible manner and ensure that this historical decision will serve as a stimulus for future economic growth and prosperity.

On behalf of CNAB,
