The Congress of North American Bosniaks, an umbrella organization representing American and Canadian Bosniaks, welcomes and supports the planned announcement of the Canadian MP Brian Masse to sponsor the resolution on genocide of Bosniaks in Srebrenica and the whole of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the Canadian parliament. MP Masse will announce his plans at a press conference in Windsor on August 29th, 2009 at 12:00 pm, 400 City Hall Square, Windsor, ON.
Congress of North American Bosniaks – Canada branch, Institute for the Research of Genocide Canada and Bosnia and Herzegovina community of Windsor and the Bosnia and Herzegovina Diaspora in Canada work to intensify activities for the adaptation of the resolution. They call on all Canadians of Bosnia and Herzegovinian origin and all people of good faith who support the truth, justice, and a sovereign, multiethnic, democratic, prosperous Bosnia and Herzegovina, to be actively involved in this process and to focus their efforts in campaigning for the resolution to pass in the Canadian parliament.
The U.S. Senate and House of Representatives adopted resolutions in 2005 commemorating the victims of genocide perpetrated in Bosnia and Herzegovina and expressing the sense of the Senate regarding the massacre at Srebrenica in July 1995. Both resolutions acknowledged aggression and ethnic cleansing perpetrated by Bosnian Serb forces during the aggression on Bosnia.
On January 15, 2009, the European Parliament adopted a resolution commemorating the victims and declaring July 11 as Srebrenica Remembrance Day throughout European Union.
The Srebrenica genocide and the genocide in Bosnia and Herzegovina were the worst atrocities in Europe since World War II. Memory of those atrocities is still very much alive in the minds and hearts of Canadian Bosniaks.
CNAB welcomes MP Masse’s sponsorship of the resolution and appreciates his work and commitment to truth and justice for Bosniaks and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
On behalf of the CNAB
