Congressional Caucus on Bosnia and Herzegovina Re-Registered for the 118th Congress

The Congressional Caucus on Bosnia and Herzegovina has been officially re-registered for the 118th Congress, ensuring continued bipartisan support for issues critical to Bosnia and Herzegovina. This significant milestone comes after nearly a year of dedicated efforts by our team to identify and secure new leadership for the Caucus following the retirement of Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson, who served as a steadfast advocate for the Bosnian-American community and Bosnia and Herzegovina during her tenure.

The Caucus’s co-chairmanship has been assumed by Congressman Mike Turner (R-OH) and Congressman Jake Auchincloss (D-MA), marking a renewed commitment to fostering strong relations between the United States and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Congressman Mike Turner brings a wealth of experience and a deep connection to Bosnia and Herzegovina’s history. Representing Dayton, Ohio, Congressman Turner’s district holds a unique place in the history of Bosnia and Herzegovina as the site of the 1995 Dayton Peace Accords, which ended the war and laid the foundation for peace in the region. His leadership reflects his enduring commitment to upholding the principles of peace, democracy, and stability that emerged from this landmark agreement.

Congressman Jake Auchincloss, a veteran and advocate for international cooperation, complements the bipartisan leadership of the Caucus. Representing Massachusetts’ Fourth District, Congressman Auchincloss brings a forward-looking approach to strengthening U.S. ties with Bosnia and Herzegovina, addressing contemporary challenges, and supporting the Bosnian-American diaspora.

Additionally, the Caucus acknowledges and appreciates the invaluable contributions of Congressman Chris Smith (R-NJ), who co-chaired the Caucus alongside Congresswoman Johnson in prior sessions of Congress. Congressman Smith’s leadership was instrumental in advancing critical initiatives and maintaining bipartisan support for Bosnia and Herzegovina. His dedication to the Caucus has left a lasting legacy, and we thank him for passing the baton to the new leadership.

“The re-registration of the Congressional Caucus on Bosnia and Herzegovina is a vital step in continuing to advocate for the democratic development, territorial integrity, and Euro-Atlantic aspirations of Bosnia and Herzegovina,” said Selma Porca, Executive Director of the Congress of Bosniaks of North America. “We are grateful to Congressman Turner and Congressman Auchincloss for stepping into these leadership roles and ensuring the Caucus remains a platform for bipartisan cooperation.”
