Over the last couple of weeks, the Congress of Bosniaks of North America (CBNA) conducted a series of meetings with congressional offices and U.S. stakeholders in Washington, D.C. to discuss the importance of continued U.S. leadership in supporting peace, stability, and democratic resilience in Bosnia and Herzegovina (Bosnia) and the Western Balkans.
CBNA’s discussions focused on protecting the U.S. brokered Dayton Peace Agreement, strengthening democratic institutions, countering destabilizing/separatist rhetoric, and advancing long-term regional stability.
CBNA emphasized the need for U.S. policymakers to remain vigilant in responding to actions that undermine the Dayton framework, Bosnia’s territorial integrity and constitutional order, fuel division, or threaten peace and stability. CBNA underscored the importance of consistent accountability for destabilizing conduct.
CBNA also discussed the importance of responsible economic and infrastructure engagement in Bosnia and Herzegovina, including energy security. CBNA emphasized that U.S. investment and partnership should strengthen transparency, the rule of law, and long-term resilience – and should support responsible development that benefits all citizens.
CBNA stressed that long-term stability requires security and highlighted the importance of sustained U.S. support for regional stability and security partnerships.
CBNA thanked its interlocutors on both sides of the aisle for their continued engagement and for keeping a close eye on developments in Bosnia during a period of heightened political tension.
CBNA will continue its work with bipartisan leaders in Congress and across the U.S. government to support policies that promote peace, security, accountability, and democratic resilience in Bosnia and the broader Western Balkans.
A peaceful Bosnia and Herzegovina means a peaceful Western Balkans. A peaceful Western Balkans strengthens our allies – and strengthens the security of the United States.
